About Flock it
Flock it is a news outlet — not a mapping tool — covering automated license plate readers (ALPR), Flock Safety, and mass vehicle surveillance in the United States. It's a beat with a point of view, not neutral wire copy: a watchdog that treats mass vehicle surveillance as a liberty problem first.
We ingest coverage from across the web, cluster stories about the same events, and write original synthesized articles — with full source attribution — through a human-reviewed editorial process. Nothing here is a repost; every published piece is a new article written from the facts across multiple sources.
The five beats
- Abuse & misuse — officers running plates for personal reasons, stalking, warrantless tracking, immigration dragnets.
- Contracts — new deployments hitting council agendas, and (higher-value) terminations and cancellations.
- False hits & harassment — innocent people detained, guns drawn on the wrong car, wrongful stops from misreads.
- Wins— a deliberately small section where Flock genuinely helped (a missing person found, a violent crime solved). It isn't a co-equal beat; it exists to keep the site honest, which is what earns the authority to be brutal everywhere else.
- Policy & legal — court rulings, legislation, and cease-and-desist fights over surveillance technology.
Editorial policy
Every article is original synthesis, genuinely rewritten from the facts across its sources — never a reposted or lightly-reworded copy of any single outlet. Every article links out to every source it draws on. Claims that come from only one source are flagged as unconfirmed rather than presented as settled fact.
The wins section exists on purpose: a news outlet that only ever reports the bad news about a technology isn't credible. Covering the cases where ALPR genuinely helped — honestly, and in proportion — is part of what lets us report everything else without being dismissed as one-sided.
No trackers
This site loads no third-party scripts, fonts, analytics, or ad tech. Nothing you do here is tracked or sold. The only outbound links are the source citations inside articles themselves.
